The Government has estimated the total investment required to implement its plans for the East at Rs. 197 billion ($1,840 million), of which 52% is to be met from foreign aid. The remainder is to be financed by the Government, private sector and voluntary organisations. Of the total investment, Rs. 26.5 billion ($247 million) was allocated in the Government budget of 2007, while Rs. 51 billion ($476 million) was allocated in the 2008 budget.
